Privacy policy — Scam Checker
Effective date: 1 November 2026
Who runs this
Scam Checker (the website at naspermushonga.co.uk/scam-checker and any Play Store app that wraps it) is run by Nasper Mushonga, a personal individual in the United Kingdom.
Contact: [email protected] (also listed on the About page).
What this service does
Scam Checker is an educational tool. You can paste a message, email or link, or choose a screenshot. It looks for common scam warning signs using rules that run in your browser (or in the app shell) on your own device. It is not a bank, regulator, police service or official scam-reporting body.
What is processed — and where
Based on a review of the Scam Checker page and its scripts:
- Text you paste or type is analysed only in your browser/app. It is not sent to Nasper Mushonga’s servers for checking.
- Screenshots or shared images you choose are read for text on your device (OCR using self-hosted files from this site). The image is not uploaded to Nasper Mushonga for analysis.
- Preferences stored only on your device (browser
localStorage): language choice (sc-lang), “report it” country choice (sc-country), and whether you dismissed the “add to home screen” prompt (sc-install-dismissed). These stay on your device and are not sent to Nasper. - Offline cache: a service worker may cache the checker’s own pages, scripts, icons and OCR engine files in your browser so the tool can work offline. A shared image may be held briefly in Cache Storage on your device so the checker can open it after a share.
- No accounts: there is no sign-up, login or user profile.
What is not collected
- No advertising cookies or trackers were found in the Scam Checker scripts.
- No analytics SDKs (for example Google Analytics) were found in those scripts.
- Your pasted text, OCR’d text and chosen screenshots are not sold, and are not sent to Nasper for storage or advertising.
- The checker does not set first-party cookies for tracking (preferences use
localStorageonly).
When you open the site or app, your device still makes ordinary web requests to load pages and files from this site (and, if you use the app wrapper, from Google Play’s update systems). Those hosting and delivery systems may see standard technical connection data (such as IP address and request headers) as with any website. That is outside the checker’s own JavaScript and is not used by Nasper to read the messages you paste into the tool.
Links to other sites
The checker links to optional third-party tools (for example Get Safe Online, VirusTotal, Google Safe Browsing) and to official reporting guidance. If you open those links and paste anything there, that is between you and that other site. Scam Checker does not send your pasted text to them automatically.
The “Share this free checker” button may use your device’s share sheet or clipboard to share the checker’s URL only — not the message you were checking.
No selling of data
Nasper Mushonga does not sell the messages, screenshots or preferences you use in Scam Checker. There are no affiliate links inside the Scam Checker page.
Children
Scam Checker is a general educational tool. It is not directed at children under 13. Do not paste other people’s private messages into the tool without a good reason.
Changes
If this policy changes, the updated text will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Continued use of the site or app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
